Band to Watch-H.E.A.T.
I’m pretty sure I’ve heard of this band before in passing, but today was the first time I actually sat down and listened to them. I stumbled upon them by accident while surfing around youtube this afternoon. See, all my youtube-ing is good for something. I gotta tell ya, so far I’m really diggin’ this. In fact, H.E.A.T. might be competing with Marcello-Vestry and Gemini Five for my favorite album of 2008.
I’ll be honest, I don’t know a whole lot about this band other than they’re relatively new, that they’re Swedish (once again, Sweden > rest of the world), and they just had an album come out earlier this year. Oh, and I know they’re not touring the U.S. anytime soon…because I checked.
This album is really impressive, and as a debut…wow. I know they’ve made some fans for life with this. I can only imagine what comes next. Although there were a couple times I thought it might be in danger of getting formulaic, it was never irritatingly so or in the least bit cheesy…which is sometimes a thin line when you’re a long-haired rock band trying to replicate the musical trends of 20 years ago. Some of it just gets a little overworked and cliche, y’know? Luckily, H.E.A.T is able to channel established bands (specifically, Europe comes to mind) without losing that original touch. They’ve got strong, soaring vocals, a catchy melody, the essential guitar solos, and they emit an upbeat, energetic, and exciting attitude. It’s the kind of album that gets the listener involved with the song, whether it be toe-tapping or getting up and singing along. I envision this being an INCREDIBLE band to see live. I can’t imagine anyone in the audience sitting down through these songs, and not getting into the music.
I haven’t heard all the tracks on the CD yet, but from what I’ve got, I really don’t have anything bad to say. This seems like a fun, truly enjoyable record to me, and I’m really excited to see what becomes of this band.
In case you’re new to this band as I was, here are a couple songs to get you started:
